"8.15 am: A talk through photographs"
Speaker: Frank Dabba Smith
Venue: Essex Church
Saturday Afternoon: 2 -4.30pm
Frank Dabba Smith is a Rabbi and Photographer. For five months I photographed his children, each morning just after driving them to school. The chronologically arranged photographs shaped his family routine into something enduring.
A native Californian, he studied linguistic anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley. After working as a photographer for global clients, including the Economist, he was ordained as a liberal rabbi at Leo Baeck College in London. His rabbinical thesis critically examined the usage of photography during the Holocaust. He is currently working on a Phd based on his research concerns the war time altruism practised by the German camera maker Ernst Leitz of Wetzlar.
