Who Can Teach Us how to Die?
Notice: This event is not booking at the moment (see below).
Who can teach us how to die, not just physically but ‘to our natural self’ so that we can be reborn to our spiritual self? Patrick Hederman writes: “Such, as I see it, is the purpose of the mid-life crisis and also the ‘usefulness’ of spiritual vision. The second self serves the needs of the second half of life. And we have to give birth to this second self spiritually. We stand in the gap between what we are and what we could be. This used to be (and still is for some) the task of religion: to offer our consciousness goals to strive for, and myths to live by. We are being introduced to another way of being and knowing. We have to learn humility before a mystery which we cannot comprehend rationally. We must allow ourselves to be ‘led’ by the unconscious towards a new realm of experience. Jung suggests that learning to live the second half of life ‘symbolically’ is the behavioural therapy we require.”
